Super batteries, invisible cloaks, spacecrafts—new technologies using carbon could revolutionise these inventions. Atomic sheets, exemplified by graphene—a flat lattice of carbon atoms—are emerging as a one-stop solution for smart materials design. These atomic sheets could become the backbone of future electronics and quantum computing, paralleling the way silicon and other semiconductors transformed the appliances we use today. In this lecture, physicist Arindam Ghosh will explore the role of graphene and similar materials in changing the technological landscapes we know today.
