Clean Air for All: Scalable Air Quality Monitoring Technologies for Securing Clean Air, Better Health, and Sustainable Cities.
Air pollution has become a major global environmental concern that is causing premature deaths, decreased crop yields, deterioration of ecosystems, and damage to monuments. The Indo-Gangetic plains, home to over half a billion people and known as the breadbasket of the nation, rank among the most polluted regions of the world. Air quality management (AQM) is a huge challenge in this region, particularly during the winter months, due to several sources, shifting land use patterns, and weather. Infosys Prize 2023 laureate Prof. Sachchida Nand Tripathi will demonstrate the utility of sensor-based dense networks in AQM. In this lecture, Prof. Tripathi will present results from a 1400- nodes operational network in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Prof. Tripathi will show the use of AI and ML based end-to-end data driven solutions (sensor calibration, fault detection, optimized network size and location). He will discuss new technologies such as airshed management along with forecasting of pollution at a hyper local scale. Tripathi will present spatial variation of Reactive Oxygenated Species, a metric to assess health impact will and map these on to the sources of pollution. Prof. Tripathi will also discuss some ongoing work on data driven decision support systems for cross sectoral issues of energy and urban mobility in the context of urban sustainability.
