Event

Inspired by the recent solar eclipse, the Infosys Science Foundation invites you to take part in a photography contest.

On April 8, 2024, vast tracts of Mexico, the United States, and Canada were plunged into darkness for four minutes and 28 seconds on a bright spring day. This was the last such total solar eclipse covering heavily populated areas of the contiguous United States until August 2044. Eclipses are the most dramatic manifestation of the play of light and shadow. They have helped us understand the cosmos better and provided Albert Einstein the first experimental evidence of general relativity.

Taking our cue from this cosmological event, the theme of our photography contest is the play of light and shadow down here on Earth. Artists and photographers through the ages have often tried to capture the dance of light and shadow to wonderful effect. Here’s your chance to play with this theme. Your photos can be realistic, or you can dabble in the abstract. Your imagination is the only limit.

Guidelines

Submission Guidelines and How to Enter:

The contest opens on April 25 and closes on May 25 at 11:59 PM IST.
All entries must be submitted electronically to infosysscience@gmail.com, with the email subject Eclipse: The Infosys Science Foundation Photography Contest
Submissions must include:
- Full Name
- Email ID
- Phone Number
- Camera Brand and Model
File sizes should not be bigger than 10 MB.
Entries must be submitted as .JPG file format.
Participants can submit their entries in ANY ONE format:
- A Photo Story Series (3 photos) with a one-line caption (maximum 50 words).
- One photo with a small description of up to 50 words.
Maximum ONE submission (in either format) is allowed per person.
No group entries allowed.

Rules

Photographs must be your own. They can be clicked using phone cameras, DSLR or Point Shoot Cameras.
Use of AI generated images for your submission is not allowed.
Photos can only be edited to adjust brightness, contrast, orientation, and cropping. No other editing, filters or presets are allowed to be used. Photos that are heavily edited will be automatically disqualified.
If the winner has been found to have violated any rules with respect to intellectual property, they will have to forfeit the prize even if the violation is found after the prize has been awarded.

Determination of Winning Entry

A winner and a runner-up will be selected by a panel of external judges. Five additional entries will receive honorable mentions. Judges’ decision is final.
Selected photos will be published on our social media channels. A People’s Choice Award will be announced based on the number of likes a photograph receives on our social media channels. The photos published on our channels will be from among the ones shortlisted by the judges.
Entries will be judged based on photography techniques, aesthetics and visual appeal, and relevance to the theme.
The winner will be selected and notified via mail on June 10, 2024.
The winning entry will receive a cash award of ₹ 10,000. The runner-up will receive a cash award of ₹ 5,000.
The winner, runner-up and honorable mentions will receive certificates.
