Cells in our body respond to diverse stimuli including chemicals, environmental factors, hormones, pathogenic infections and so on. This process is mediated via specific protein molecules embedded in the cell membrane known as integral membrane receptors.
Over the years, research done by Prof. Shukla’s team has focused primarily on a large family of such receptor proteins known as G protein-coupled receptors to understand their activation mechanism in cellular and physiological context.
They envision that their research should facilitate the design of novel drugs against several human disease conditions with minimized side-effects.
