National Science Day (28 February) celebrates the transformative power of scientific inquiry, while Rare Disease Day, observed globally on the last day of February, raises awareness about rare diseases and the challenges faced by patients and their families. The close alignment of these two observances highlights the critical role of science, especially genetics and emerging technologies, in improving lives.
To mark this occasion, the Tata Institute for Genetics and Society (TIGS), in collaboration with the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), is organizing a public outreach event on genetic literacy titled GENETICS deCODED. The event will bring together experts, scientists, college students, rare disease patients and families, and the wider public through engaging and interactive sessions.
What to expect:
- Expert-led discussions and public lectures
- Ask a Scientist interactive sessions for students and the public
- Games and activities to deepen understanding of genetics and rare diseases
- Insights into how AI tools are applied in genetics
- An introduction to genetic counselling
- Academic and Career pathways in Science
