Utpal Banerjee holds the Irving and Jean Stone Endowed Chair in life sciences in the Department of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology at UCLA. He also holds a joint appointment in the Department of Biological Chemistry in the David Geffen School of Medicine and is Co-Director of the Broad Stem Cell Research Center. He is the recipient of the National Institutes of Health Director's Pioneer Award and Genetics Society of America Elizabeth W. Jones Award for Excellence in Education. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Banerjee also received the Luckman and Gold Shield Awards, the highest research and teaching awards in any subject, including humanities and social sciences, at UCLA. His current research interests are in metabolic and signaling control of development.
