K. Christopher Garcia

K. Christopher Garcia

Professor, Department of Molecular and Cellular Physiology and Department of Structural Biology, and Investigator, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Stanford University School of Medicine, USA

Dr. Garcia is studying the structure and function of cell surface receptor recognition and activation in biological systems directly implicated in human health and disease. He serves as Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Immune Disease Institute, Inc. Dr. Garcia is a leading scientist studying the structural biology of cytokine receptor recognition and activation, and probing cytokine signaling mechanisms using protein engineering. Dr. Garcia's laboratory also has a longstanding interest in the structural biology of adaptive immunity, mainly focused on understanding on how the T cell receptor recognizes MHC molecules. Dr. Garcia holds a Ph.D. in Biophysics from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a B.S. in Biochemistry from Tulane University. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Genentech and Scripps Research Institute. His awards include Keck Medical Scholar, Pew Scholar and Rita Allen Scholar. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
